Tetra Pak Filling & Brewhouse

Plant-Based Milk Processing & Packaging

Tetra Pak Filling & Brewhouse

Our Capability

We partnered with Krones, Steinecker, and Tetra Pak to commission a world-class milk processing facility integrated with a brewhouse — the first operation of its kind globally to produce plant-based milk in 1L Tetra Pak packaging. The facility has the capacity to produce up to 50 million litres annually.

Predominantly producing oat milk, we can produce all other plant based milks, as well as other liquids such as juices and stocks.

This entire project was a massive collaboration between Free-Flow Manufacturing and our foundation customer, Otis Oat Milk, to bring about a commercial product entirely made in New Zealand. Free-Flow found the ability to improve utilisation and expand product line, working with Krones, Steinecker, and Tetra Pak to bring the vision to life.

The Innovation

Utilising a CombiCube brewhouse from Steinecker, which is connected to the can line being used for filling beer. Additional processing equipment include sa decanter as well as conditioning and mixing tanks enables Free Flow to produce not only beer with the new brewhouse, but also oat milk.

Further downstream we have a homogeniser, a VarioAsept D UHT system and a Variostore aseptic mixing tank from Krones for making the product shelf-stable. The Steinecker Botec F1 process control system enables the production processes to be controlled safely, reliably and reproducibly. This all flows through to a Tetra Pak Compact Flex A3 packaging line, specifically into 1L Tetra Paks that are packaged into a 6-pack shipper.
